Rocky Horror Picture Show

He breaks the 4th wall by throwing his cup of water on the camera, and singing to the camera. essentially sharing with the audience a little secret that maybe the rest of the cast shouldn't know.
There are a lot of extreme close ups (with his fantastic make up you would do),

Family Guy

Just a few clips from season 10, family guy is very much about using flash backs to portray the message they're trying to express. They're mostly ridiculous, but this is a key style for family guy. That other shows can imitate.

The Walking Dead (Possible spoiler alert)

We start off  with a close up shot of ricks face, sweaty and covered in blood. At this moment we don't know why. We hear a voice before we see the face of the man who rick is talking to (we know he's talking to rick because rick looks at after he talks), which adds a sense of mystery. Before we even see the other mans face we see his bloodied weapon come between him and rick, showing authority, also even though he kneels down to talk to rick, he's always just that little bit taller. An over the shoulder shot from rick shows this, even though there are other people about that these characters talk to. They aren't seen, the complete focus is on them. All the weapons come between them.

Even while he's dragging rick into the camper van the people around them are silhouetted by the bright lights around, adding mystery. This could also be because it's a 'sneak peak' for the audience. He drags rick around like a dog, showing dominance.

At the end of the scene the camera pans down to the floor after his line 'the ones who are left' to reveal what seems to be blood and bits of brain on the floor, showing that he'd killed somone. At this point we don't know who.

Analysing this scene makes me feel like a want to analyse the walking dead for my essay, a lot of great HBO shows have brilliant cinematography.

Researching Clips for my Essay

Here are just a few scenes from films that I personally enjoy, there's a vast range of genre which helps me to decide what direction I want to steer my essay.

Cast Away is very much a adventure/disaster film, In this scene Tom Hanks is trying his best to open a coconut, it's humorous get gruesome as he cuts his hand on the earth made knife.

Here is a clip from John Wick, which I love. Featuring a mixture of colours/lighting and close ups of stern looks. This action scene shows the concept of the film, he is John Wick do not mess with him.

In terms of camera angles/framing I'm sure a lot of thought went into this theme with the thought of needing to keep the card in shot. So the audience can see it but the security guards can't, keeping us in the loop.

A classic film, with a very classic scene of Woody getting ready for the museum in Japan. There are a multitude of shots, many close up of woodys face as his 'make up' being being placed. Which I find rather ironic, that close ups are often used to show emotion, but woody isn't able to show any at all.

Task 4

Find an example of: Villains

Modern Interpretation: The joker is an incredibly famous villain, his psychologically disturbed character has been adapted many times. But even though he is meant to be a bad guy, he still has a massive following.

In the most recent film with the Joker 'suicide squad' the joker was portrayed as a gangsta, which is a completely new interpretation which actually worked really well. He's still as messed up as ever, but with a gangsta twist.

Historical Interpretation: The witch from the Wizard of Oz is a very PC villian, you can tell she came from a time when television was very PG. Her acting is very over dramatic

Other cultures Interpretation: Studio Ghibli has a very unique way of portraying villains, they're normally very funny likeable characters by the way they look. Her chins do make me laugh.

Within Animation Interpretation: Ursula is an amazing villain, I feel this is because of her character design, her octopus features crawl around the scene in a sinister style.

Eat You Kimchi

EatYourKimchi is a you tube channel that I have been watching for a few years, this is one of there most recent videos. I chose this one in particular due to it's interesting camera shots.
I starts off with almost a wide shot/mid shot of the kitchen Martina is standing in, setting the scene of where they are. You can assume from this (and the title) that they will be cooking, the camera pulls in closer as the writing comes on the screen, these are helpful prompts to help us understand the Japanese translations of the food they're making.

This camera angle is the one I find most interesting, it's a top down view but it's also at a an angle. This might have been unintentional because it was the only was they could put the camera that shows the food cooking clearly. But they're both able the interact with the camera so they can let us know they know we're there. They always talk to the camera like they're talking directly to you.

Impractical Jokers - USA

I've always found that with American shows are edited to be more dramatic than English shows. And most of the time that feels too much, for example manipulative editing. Where they make something see like it happened when it didn't, like many reality tv shows. However there is a reason they cut so much, most reality shows (british or american) are mashing together different moments to create something that didn't happen how they wanted to on the show.

There seem to be a lot of quick cuts between the guys being told what to say, the ones behind the scenes and the public. This keeps the audiences attention. Since it's a hidden camera show the positioning of the camera changes rapidly to each one around the room.
